MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — With a major winter storm approaching Middle Tennessee, residents are urged to prepare for hazardous road conditions, potential service delays, and dangerously cold temperatures in the coming days.
Here’s what you need to know to stay safe and informed.
Road Clearing Operations
The city has five dump trucks equipped with snow plows and salt spreaders ready to clear roads, backed by a stockpile of approximately 800 to 1,000 tons of salt. Crews will prioritize state routes and major streets first before moving to secondary roads throughout the city.
Residents can use the city’s interactive snow routes map to see which roads will be cleared first. Routes are color-coded by priority: state routes (burnt orange), major streets (blue), and six secondary routes covering the rest of the city.
Trash Collection Delays Possible
If road conditions become unsafe, trash collection may be delayed or postponed until garbage trucks can safely navigate neighborhoods. Residents can sign up for text alerts by texting BoroGarbage to 38276. For questions, contact the Solid Waste Department at 615-893-3681.
Protect Your Home and Property
Homeowners should take precautions to protect their property from freeze damage. Weatherproofing your home can help prevent costly plumbing breaks during extended cold snaps. The city has published cold weather tips, and the Murfreesboro Fire Department has released additional safety guidance for low temperatures.
