Chill out, Murfreesboro! The beloved specialty grocery store, Trader Joe’s, is setting up shop near Medical Center Parkway and Robert Rose Dr! Residents are buzzing with excitement, and for good reason. The news has been officially confirmed, bringing much anticipation to the community.

Trader Joe’s is known for its unique and affordable products like Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, Teeny Tiny Avocados, Everything But The Leftovers Seasoning Blend, and Stir Fried Garlicky Cabbage. This new location will be a 13,050-square-foot store, part of TDK’s commercial and residential project called The Exchange. The project will also feature 16,920 square feet of retail shops and restaurants.

Trader Joe’s strategically chooses communities with rising incomes, and Murfreesboro fits the bill perfectly. Trader Joe’s only comes to communities where they see household income going up and where they see median income going up.

Murfreesboro, a rapidly growing city with an estimated population of 165,430 as of July 2023, has seen significant economic growth. The U.S. Census Bureau reported a median household income of $70,451 in 2022, close to the national median of $75,149. This upward trend has created the perfect climate for Trader Joe’s to thrive.

The journey to bring Trader Joe’s to Murfreesboro wasn’t a walk in the park. Initial attempts in 2014 to engage with representatives from Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods were met with cold shoulders.

However, persistence paid off, and the city’s efforts to improve infrastructure, such as widening Medical Center Parkway from four to six lanes, helped attract retailers like Trader Joe’s.

Cooling Down with Anticipation

Construction at the corner of Robert Rose and Medical Center Parkway is heating up, with the community eagerly awaiting the new specialty grocery store’s opening. Although a specific timeline has not been confirmed, the excitement is snowballing.
