LG Electronics USA will invest an additional $20.5 million to expand its washing machine factory in Clarksville, Tennessee. The expansion will increase production to help fulfill the unheard-of demand for its popular washing machines in the United States.
With this expansion, LG Electronics will create 334 new jobs and employ a total of 1,000 workers for this year.
At the start of 2017, LG unveiled that Clarksville would be the location of its first washing machine factory in the United States. Finished in 2018 at a cost of $360 million, the one-million-square-foot manufacturing operation is believed to be the world’s most sophisticated washing machine factory.
Described as a “smart factory,” the complex utilizes hundreds of robots used in material handling, parts production, sub-assembly and final assembly processes. The factory has the ability to generate more than one million front- and top-load washers each year.
LG Electronics USA is the North American daughter company of LG Electronics, Inc., a $56 billion multinational company specializing in technology and manufacturing with its headquarters in South Korea.
By expanding production at its Clarksville factory, LG Electronics is supporting a positive economic development for the community and creating jobs for Tennesseans.
